PAYMENT PLANS WITH TAXING AUTHORITIES
Few taxpayers or businesses when contacted by Internal
Revenue Service and/or the Pennsylvania taxing authority are able to
pay in one lump sum the full amount of past due taxes. If bankruptcy
and/or offer in compromise is not an option for a taxpayer and/or business, the taxing
authorities will take the necessary steps to collect back taxes as quickly as
possible. The mistake taxpayers and/or businesses make is to attempt to pay the back
taxes without keeping current with their current taxes (whether it is individual estimated payments
or timely tax deposits for their payroll taxes). If handled properly, a payment plan can be negotiated
which keeps the taxpayer and/or business current on their taxes and also addresses payments
toward the back taxes.
